Although the clerical members of Virgo Flos Carmeli exercise their ministry mainly toward the lay members and Companions of the Heralds of the Gospel and the associations that share the same charism, as workers in the vineyard of the Lord they are eager to help their other brothers in the priesthood in diverse locations worldwide.

ac1.jpg           In São Paulo, for example, the clerical members of the Heralds hear confessions every Saturday afternoon in St. Gonzolo Parish close to the Se Cathedral.

Fr. Caio Newton de Assis Fonseca, EP, is pastor of the Parish of Our Lady of Graces in the Diocese of Bragança Paulista, located in the Serra da Cantareira, in the northern zone of greater São Paulo. Herald clerics also help pastors in various parishes of Greater São Paulo.

In locations across Brazil and worldwide, the Reparatory Communions of the Five First Saturdays are celebrated, during which the faithful are enabled to fulfill the request of Our Lady of Fatima.

Directors of hospitals that provide religious assistance to patients in the Paulista capital have asked the Heralds to offer counseling to family members as well as the Sacraments to the sick.

Herald clerics have been trained as Masters and Doctors of Theology, Philosophy, and Canon Law in various pontifical universities worldwide. Academic formation is geared toward training future members who are preparing for the priesthood in the Aristotelian-Thomistic Philosophical Institute, and the St. Thomas Aquinas Theological Institute and those who will serve as teachers in the theological and philosophical institutes located in other areas worldwide.

This vibrant academic life provides these clerics with the literary ability to write articles and books that are published by the Lumen Sapietiae publishing house, or on the Heralds of the Gospel website. The monthly publication, Heralds of the Gospel magazine, is the largest Catholic magazine in Brazil, and boasts one of the broadest circulations in the world.

This same course of action is carried out in fourteen cities from the north to the south of Brazil, in which priests of Virgo Flos Carmeli minister in the youth centres of the Heralds of the Gospel, forming young people through the preaching of the Word of God and the administration of the Sacraments.

This activity undertake in the youth centres is not restricted to Brazil. In countries including Mozambique,ac2.jpg Canada, El Salvador, Costa Rica, Guatemala, Dominican Republic, Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, Paraguay, Chile, Argentina, Spain, Portugal and India they enhance the society of tomorrow through action specifically geared toward young people. In the locations in which youth centres are installed, Herald priests also aid diocesan bishops and parish priests in ecclesial activities and the administration of the sacraments.

Various clerical members of Virgo Flos Carmeli serve in the Apostolic Vicariate of San Miguel de Sucumbíos located in the Amazon rainforest of Ecuador. Other priests act as coordinators of mailing enterprises that send out correspondence to millions of families worldwide spreading Marian devotion and encouraging ecclesial participation among the faithful.

The main objective of the clerical branch—as affirmed in the constitutions approved by the Supreme Pontiff—is the exercise of the priestly ministry in the houses of Virgo Flos Carmeli and other associations linked with the family of souls of the Heralds of the Gospel—celebrating Masses, hearing confessions, as well as providing human and spiritual formation to numerous aspirants who live in the houses of priestly formation and who seek to consecrate themselves to the service of God and Church.
